As you may know in the most recent media, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) is currently negotiating a renewed provincial collective agreement and has been on strike since Monday, September 30, 2019. CUPE Local 1571 has announced that it will hold a ratification vote for its members on November 23, 2019. The YCDSB Foundation Board will submit the provisional agreement for ratification at its meeting on 26 November 2019. On Thursday, March 12, 2020, an interim collective agreement was reached by the Ontario Catholic Teachers` Association (OECD), the Ontario Catholic School Trust Association (OCSTA) and the Ontario government. As a result, the OECD suspended all strike activities until the agreement was ratified.

The York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) is pleased to announce that a new collective agreement has been reached with CUPE Local 2331. YCDSB employees represented by CUPE Local 2331 include office workers, designated early childhood educators (DECEs), educational assistants (EHA), library technicians, lunch facilitators, lunch desk support staff, school secretariat staff and student support staff (SSWs). After a series of rounds of negotiations in recent months, an interim agreement on a renewed collective agreement was signed on 28 January 2020. YCDSB`s Board of Trustees submitted the interim transaction for approval at its Board meeting on January 28, 2020. CUPE Local 2331 had this interim regulation ratified with its members on 5 February 2020.
The interim regime has been ratified by both parties. The new collective agreement between YCDSB and CUPE Local 2331 completes the central CUPE agreement negotiated under the collective agreement of the school board and previously ratified on November 1, 2019.
